In reply to Wendy. hi there! I went back to Chiloe for the 3rd time and I would definitely recommend going to Lemuy Island. It's so beautiful, located close to Castro. I stayed at Casa Pindal and they treated me like family! As for Puerto Montt, it's not the nicest city in the region. I'd definitely try to switch it up and stay in Puerto Varas, which is really close! Torres del Paine is complicated but not impossible! I'd love to chat about your stay there, maybe I can help!

Hi have just found this site, It’s really useful. My husband and I will have 10 weeks in Argentina and chile next January. I see you stayed in Castro for 2 nights. We have 3 nights here with a night in puerto Montt either side. Where would you recommend to stay for third night.? Planning Torres del Paine sounds more complicated than we realised. We intend to do day treks

In reply to Peggy Browett. we rented a suv but it wasn't a 4x4. There was only one part when we went to visit the Muelle del alma where we had to get out of the car and climb the little hill.

What a great post! We are currently in Puerto Guadal, and making our way up towards Coyhaique – the scenery is incredible, we keep extending our stay in each town. We are doing the whole trip via hitch-hiking, it has worked well so far!

Hi Andrea, we are planning to visit Chiloe in a few weeks. I really found the article you wrote very interesting and informative and will be using it to make a plan of our trip. We want to rent a car to get around the island. What state are the roads for driving on? Does the car have to be a 4 by 4? For example what type of car did you use? Thank you . Peggy

Since I started travelling, I have traveled both solo and with friends and I must admit that each time it was a different and unique experience. However, I do find your tips exceptional and very helpful. Anyone planning to travel with friends should definitely read them!
